Lexus has introduced its first vehicle in Australia that pushes past the $200,000 mark. The LS600hL is the new range-topping model for the Japanese luxury brand, sitting above the standard V8-powered LS460 that was introduced in April. The 600hL version has not only been stretched by 120mm, but adds a hybrid drive system using an electric motor. Lexus upgraded the engine to produce 290kW and 520Nm, while the electric motor is good for 165kW and 300Nm. It is all fed through a constant all-wheel-drive system. The performance is tempered by a hefty weight tally of 2430kg. Some of this weight can be explained by a multitude of impressive comfort features that includes body-sensing climate-control, a reclining Ottoman rear seat with massage function and a top-shelf sound system. The LS600hL also possesses the ability to park itself, with minor input from the driver. Pricing for the traditional five-seat LS600hL is $233,000, while the four-seat model, with Ottoman recliner, costs $240,000. Lexus anticipates its long-wheelbase LS will remain exclusive, accounting for just one per cent of Australian sales.
