Citroen adds diesel to C4 hatch

CITROEN Australia has added a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel model variant to its C4 hatchback range, priced from $29,990 and returning fuel consumption of 4.7L/100km based on a combined urban/outer-urban European standard.

An Australian Standard consumption rating is still to be confirmed, however the figure allows Citroen to claim hybrid-like economy of more than 1200km based on the vehicle’s 60-litre tank.

The hi-tech 1560cc HDi 110 common-rail direct-injection engine features a variable displacement turbocharger with an "overboost" feature for extra torque under acceleration.

It can produce 80kW at 4000rpm and 240-260Nm from 1750rpm and, with the standard five-speed manual (auto is unavailable), can send the vehicle from 0-100km/h in a claimed 11.2 seconds.

On price, the 1.6 HDi slots between the $25,990 1.6 petrol and $33,990 2.0 C4 five-door model.

Equipment mirrors the 1.6 petrol, meaning six airbags, ABS brakes, stability control, cruise control, air-conditioning, a CD stereo, trip computer, tinted windows, rain-sensing wipers and front foglights are all fitted standard.

The importer of the French brand expects the oil-burner to account for 15-20 per cent of C4 sales.
