FIAT and PSA Peugeot Citroen have extended their collaboration on commercial vehicles, unveiling a new range of small vans – all of which are odds on to make it to Australia during 2007.
Notwithstanding the fact that one importer, Ateco Automotive, distributes both Fiat and Citroen vehicles in Australia, negotiations to introduce both the Citroen Dispatch (known as the Jumpy in non-English-speaking countries) and Fiat Scudo are under way.
The Dispatch would sit above the Berlingo in Australia, while the Scudo would sit below the Ducato. Peugeot Automobiles Australia, which is a different distributor, is working to get its version, the Expert, here as well.
Power comes from Peugeot-Citroen engines including two common-rail turbo-diesel four-cylinder units – a 66kW 1.6-litre and 88kW/100kW (two states of tune) 2.0-litre – and a 103kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol. The 2.0-litre turbo-diesel is the most likely for Australia.
