NISSAN has put a pricetag of more than half a million dollars on its mental hand-built Juke-R sub-compact SUV.
The equally mental price was revealed by Nissan Americas vice-president David Reuter, who told Edmunds Inside Line the strictly limited production will be priced from around $US590,000 ($A585,000).
“We will make Juke-R available to customers anywhere in the world on a build-to-order basis,” said Mr Reuter.
“It is intended for serious collectors and investors who want to own a true original, an innovative project that will only be created in extremely small numbers.”The Juke-R is built in Britain using the chassis and running gear from the all-wheel-drive 2012 model Nissan GT-R supercoupe and was shown in concept form at the Dubai motor show in January.
The twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine produces 406kW of power and 627Nm of torque – considerably more even than the 140kW and 240Nm developed by the range-topping 1.6-litre turbo engine in the regular Juke.
As GoAuto reported last week, Nissan has confirmed production and three examples have already been ordered, including two for a “well-respected member of Dubai society”.
A report from France suggested that total production will be capped at about 25 units.
