Pug 308 CC breezes in ahead of Paris debut

PEUGEOT has released images and details of its forthcoming 308 CC 2+2 coupe-cabriolet, the latest model from the French marque to use a folding steel roof and one with the promise of all-round comfort via four full-size seats and increased rear legroom.

To make its world debut at the Paris motor show in October, and due on sale in Australia inside nine months, the 308 CC is based on the hatchback and has a number of striking features, not least of which is a new Euro V emissions-compliant 104kW 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine. The engine will be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.



As well as a striking visual presence, which includes LED tail-lights and conversion from coupe to cabrio in a claimed 20 seconds, the 308 CC is installed with a “world-first” side head airbags and front seat-mounted side airbags – a combination that Peugeot claims guarantees effective protection of all parts of the body regardless of seat position – as well as “active” rear rollover protection bars.

Compared to the current 307 CC, the new-generation model also has a wider front and rear track, larger-diameter disc brakes and, according to the Peugeot, lower interior noise levels. The manufacturer also promises “excellent structural rigidity”.

The front seats have deep sculpting, integral head restraints and an inbuilt air vent that diffuses warm air around the occupant’s neck and shoulders. A first for a Peugeot coupe-cabriolet, this “Airwave” system is adjustable for temperature, flow and direction.

The rear seats have a similar design – sans Airwave – and offer rear accommodation that is (again, according to the maker) “surprisingly generous” for a cabriolet. Cargo volume ranges from 266 litres, with the roof folded, to 465 litres with it in use. The latter is 115 litres more than the 307 CC.

Other new features include automatic remote locking of the glovebox and centre console storage box, dedicated storage spaces (including an under-floor compartment designed to hold the optional wind blocker), an electric-assist rear-seat access function, door deadlocking, a range of new audio and navigation systems, and LED courtesy lighting in the door mirrors, Upper-scale models will also be available with a full leather interior.
