More equipment for Mazda6

AUSTRALIA’S second-best selling mid-sized car, the Mazda6 sedan and wagon, is now available with a range of extra-cost preventative safety features from the company’s i-ACTIVSENSE range.

The extras pack adds the most equipment to entry-level Sport and Touring variants. For $1490, buyers can add a self-dimming rear-view mirror, blind-spot monitoring, city-brake assistance and rear cross-traffic alert.

‘Blind-spot monitoring’ (BSM) watches the region outside of the driver’s peripheral vision and illuminates a door-mirror mounted warning-light if another vehicle is in the restricted vision area.

‘Smart city brake support’ (SCBS) helps reduce the likelihood of low speed collisions by applying the brakes if the system detects an imminent crash.

And ‘Rear cross traffic alert’ (RCTA) warns the driver if vehicles approach while reversing in to the flow of traffic, using the same BSM mirror indicators and an audible warning.

GT variants already carry an auto-dimming rear-view mirror as standard, which reduces the cost of the Safety Pack — which still adds BSM, SCBS and RCTA — to $1290.

As part of the new options list, top of the range Atenza variants now have Smart City Brake fitted as standard, pushing the starting price up by $400 to $47,210 for the petrol sedan and $48,510 for the equivalent wagon.

However, the safety pack also includes a space-saving spare-wheel, which replaces the full-sized wheel. The upside is a 45 litre increase in the sedan’s boot volume to 483 litres. It also frees-up another 55 litres in the wagon, taking its boot up to 506 litres.

Mazda is also throwing a new no-cost colour option into the Mazda6 range with Deep Crystal Mica replacing the existing Stormy Blue Mica shade.
