Citroen recalls C5 Tourer

CITROEN has been forced to recall its C5 Tourer to fix no fewer than four separate problems.

The defect announcements were made over two days last week, when the French brand recalled 72 examples of its latest large wagon due to loose tailgate strut ball-joints, 105 because of poor engine running, 128 that could have loose tailgate spoilers and some 134 with potentially loose windscreen trims.

In the first case, affected examples of the five-door C5 would present with rattling tailgates, while in the second Citroen advises that a poorly running engine would result in reduced driving performance.

C5s affected by the latter two problems could lose their tailgate spoilers or side windscreen trims completely if left unattended.

All four C5 Tourer recall notices apply nationally and owners of affected vehicles are urged to contact an authorised Citroen dealer or the toll-free Citroen Customer Assist line: 1800 804 707.

Launched simultaneously with the second-generation C5 sedan in September 2008, the current C5 Tourer (previously known as the Estate) is available in three specifications.

Like the four-door C5, the five-door range comprises the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel HDi Comfort ($55,990) and Exclusive ($60,990), and the 2.7-litre V6-powered HDi Exclusive ($69,490).

Citroen has sold a total of 388 C5 sedans and wagons so far in 2009 – an 18.3 per cent improvement on 2008 figures.
