MINI Australia has secured ten examples of the ultra-exclusive ‘Inspired by Goodwood’ edition, which the brand co-developed with fellow BMW subsidiary and British icon Rolls-Royce.
Just 1000 examples of the Cooper S-based Goodwood edition have been crafted at Mini’s Oxford plant in a project reminiscent of Aston Martin’s Toyota iQ-based Cygnet luxury city car.
The Goodwood’s cabin comes adorned with rich walnut veneer, cornsilk leather highlights, plush carpeting and Rolls-Royce Lambswool floor mats, while the body is finished in a unique ‘liquid effect’ diamond black metallic paint.
The bonnet scoop found on the Cooper S has been ditched in order to maintain the car’s “regal presence”.
Customers wanting this luxurious and exclusive special edition will have to pay for the privilege, however, with its $74,500 pricetag eclipsing the price of the Cooper S donor car by more than $30,000.
Despite its eye-watering price, Mini Australia said that eight buyers have already signed up, so interested parties had better get in quick if they want to secure one of the remaining pair.
As well as the Cygnet, the Goodwood also follows in the tyre tracks of the conceptually similar and equally diminutive Fiat 500-based Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari, which last year hit local showrooms in limited numbers priced from $69,990.
Other special additions on the Goodwood include cashmere wool interior inserts, chrome switchgear and a Rolls-Royce leather steering wheel. The instrument cluster is also covered in RR lettering.
As one would expect, the car comes with satellite-navigation, voice control and a Harmon Kardon sound system as standard.
The car shares its 135kW/240Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with the Cooper S, matched with a six-speed automatic transmission.
With claimed fuel efficiency of 7.0 litres per 100 km, it is the first car emblazoned with Rolls-Royce badges to dodge the luxury car tax in Australia.
The Goodwood announcement comes days after Mini Australia also confirmed it would sell limited numbers of the Baker Street and Bayswater special editions from May.
Both of these editions (see separate story) – named in honour of London landmarks – include unique cosmetic additions inside and out, as well as improved entertainment systems.
