Nissan beefs up Murano specs, prices

The base Murano ST increases from $48,790 to $48,990 before adding on-road costs, an increase of just $200 over the old price.
However, the price of the high-end Ti variant, which formerly cost from $58,390, has now jumped to $60,240, a rise of $1850.
As consolation for high-end buyers, Nissan said the Murano Ti now adds features including blind spot and lane departure warning systems, as well as a detection system that can spot moving objects behind the Murano as it is reversing.
As well, buyers of the Ti gain live traffic updates for the in-car satellite navigation system, including the ability to divert around traffic jams, and a big step up from 18-inch to 20-inch alloy wheels.
Both versions send drive to all four wheels via a 3.5-litre V6 mated to a continuously variable transmission with six pre-set ratios.
Nissan will pull the wraps off its third-generation US-built Murano at the New York motor show in April this year which go on sale either late this year or early 2015, replacing the current model that went on sale locally in 2009.
The high-end five-seat hatchback is a struggling to keep up with newer and fresher rivals, with Murano sales falling by almost half last year to just 1125 units.
By comparison, Mazda’s equally premium seven-seat CX-9 pegged more than 4000 sales, while even the recently arrived Fiat Freemont, essentially a rebadged Dodge Journey but featuring a diesel engine, almost matched Murano for the number of units moved in the year.
