Volkswagen Oz unleashes special edition Multivan

VOLKSWAGEN has released a special version of its Multivan people-mover, dubbed ‘Edition 25’, with a host of aggressive cosmetic and active safety upgrades.

The company says that the special variant, which is now on sale from $66,990, has been created to celebrate more than 25 years’ production of the Multivan nameplate.

The Edition 25 is available only in ‘Candy White’ which is contrasted with black alloy wheels, door handles and B-pillar, along with black decal trim on the front and rear bumpers and along the sills. The roof is also finished in matte-black paint.

The special edition is based on the entry-level Comfortline specification level, adding grey Nappa leather seats with anthracite highlights, ‘Lane Change Assist’ active safety system and anti-glare, automatically-dimming rear-view mirrors.

Further additions include front fog lamps with cornering lights, daytime running lights, a tyre pressure indicator and assisted final-closing and latching for the side and rear doors.

Volkswagen also claims to have increased the agility of the van by strengthening the anti-roll bars and giving the chassis some sporting tweaks.

The Edition 25 is powered by the 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel inline-four, pumping out 132kW at 4000rpm and maximum torque of 400Nm available between 1500 and 2000rpm.

The engine drives the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission and returns claimed average fuel consumption of 8.1L/100km on the combined cycle.

The $66,990 sticker price represents a $10,000 hike over the regular Comfortline front wheel-drive Multivan variant.

Sales of Volkswagen’s Multivan range – which received a substantial facelift in March last year and the addition of optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive in September – are up by a significant 283.9 per cent so far this year.

The German company has sold 357 units so far this year, compared to just 93 at the same time last year.

The ‘Edition’ moniker is becoming familiar to fans of the Wolfsburg marque – last month it announced the forthcoming Golf GTI ‘Edition 35’ anniversary model at the Worthersee show in Austria, which is scheduled to arrive here in small numbers later this year.
