MITSUBISHI is previewing an updated Outlander that takes on the prominent Lancer EVO nose at this week’s New York motor show.
The company released some sneak images of the car, called the Outlander GT Prototype, with one showing the complete vehicle driving, but intentionally blurred to save some surprise for the show unveiling.
A detail shot shows the Outlander’s grille, which is a similar shape and design to the Lancer EVO, dominating the front-end profile.
Mitsubishi sources suggest the vehicle to be shown in New York previews a mid-life update for the Outlander compact SUV that will be introduced in the US.
It is not yet clear if the update will be adopted on Japanese, European and Australian models that sometimes have different styling to US cars.
While not going into detail, Mitsubishi says the vehicle’s 3.0-litre V6 has more power than the standard unit and is linked to the Super-All-Wheel-Control System for superior handling.
It says the vehicle will also premiere new fuel saving technology called Idle Neutral Logic which automatically shifts the automatic transmission into neutral when the vehicle is stationary.
