First look: Scion's affordable coupe

BY MARTON PETTENDY | 20th Apr 2006

TOYOTA’S US market, youth-oriented sub-brand Scion, which is under consideration to take the place of Daihatsu in Australia, showed a coupe concept dubbed the Fuse Sports at last week's New York motor show.

The work of Toyota’s California-based Calty design centre, the Fuse is a much more stirring package than the current tC coupe, combining an "affordable" sports coupe body (complete with butterfly doors and 20-inch custom-machined wheels, but with a basic 2.4-litre engine under the bonnet) with the latest cabin entertainment and digital technology.

The interior gets its inspiration from motor racing and a "media station" runs the length of the dash, on which passengers are able to watch movies, play video games, or do both, via dual-display monitors.
