MERCEDES-AMG has previewed a special package that will set the forthcoming C63 Coupe apart from the pack.
While the Edition 1 package is not specific to the Mercedes-AMG sub-brand, the unique specification levels and decaling are more often seen splashed across Merc’s hotrod machines.
It will be available on the base C63 Coupe, which will not be sold in Australia and the more extreme C63 S that we will get midway through next year.
The kit will include extras like AMG’s aero package, matte black rims, chrome-plated exhaust tips, contrast yellow stitching for the seats, a Dinamica-wrapped steering wheel and tinted glass.
In the case of the C63 S Coupe, the Edition 1 will include all the C63’s items, and it will offered in a single matte grey body colour with a bespoke decal treatment on the body and rims, along with higher-performance tyres and AMG’s ceramic composite front brakes.
While unable to comment specifically on the C63 Coupe, Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific (MBAP) communication manager Jerry Stimoulis told GoAuto that the Edition 1 package has been used on mainstream Mercs such as the SL and CLS in the past.
“We won’t see the C63 Coupe until Frankfurt, and it’s not likely to be here until mid-next year,” he said. “Edition 1 is available on the C63 sedan and Estate, but we’ll have prices and specifications on the Coupe closer to launch.”Mr Stamoulis said specification differences between overseas and Australian markets – overseas Edition 1 variants receive AMG’s exterior Night Package trim kit, but Australian cars come standard with it – means that pricing cannot be finalised until next year.
“The Edition 1 package is not limited by numbers,” he said. “The factory generally tells us how long they will build them for, and once they stop, that’s it.”The C63 S Coupe will be officially unveiled at next week’s Frankfurt motor show. MBAP has confirmed that only the S variant will be available locally, following in the wheeltracks of the C63 S sedan and wagon.
The outgoing C63 AMG Coupe 507 Edition is till on sale alongside the new sedan and wagon, and costs $159,900 plus on-road costs.
