More price cuts for Subaru range

SUBARU is extending its price discount bonanza to three more models, with between $500 and $1000 sliced off its Forester, XV and Impreza ranges.

Following a free-trade agreement with the manufacturer's home country Japan, all Forester mid-sized SUV models are cheaper to the tune of $1000, XV small SUV variants have a $750 discount, while the Impreza sedan and hatch have a $500 range-wide reduction.

The price wind-back started with the new WRX in March 2014, which saw the price of the sporty sedan pushed lower than the 1994 original, while a hearty $10,000 was taken off its STI high-performance sibling compared with the previous generation.

More discounts followed with the introduction of the 2015 Outback and Liberty models last month, which received up to $10,000 and a staggering $14,000 price chop respectively.

Only the BRZ sportscar has been left untouched in the discount spree with prices remaining at its original 2012 entry level $37,150 driveaway.

The latest round of pricing restructures comes into effect on January 16, but in the interim, 2014 models will be subject to Subaru's New Year Sale which effectively applies the same discounts to existing stock.

As a result, customers can now get into an entry-level Forester from $28,990 before on-road costs, the price of a base XV comes down to $27,740, while Impreza fans can hop aboard for a starting price of $23,490 driveaway.

Updates are in the pipeline for the Forester with a diesel/automatic combination arriving Down Under in March this year and the possibility of a hot STI version to follow later.

A mild refresh is on the way for Impreza variants too, with a cosmetic facelift and Subaru's Eyesight safety technology due for the small sedan and hatch this year.

No updates have been confirmed for the Impreza-based XV SUV but at two years old, the high-riding crossover could be due for a mid-life makeover in the near future.
