CHINESE vehicle importer WMC Group has appointed a new CEO just two weeks before it launches its third brand in Australia, LDV Vans.
Neil Bamford takes over from Jason Pecotic, who remains a director, shareholder and executive of Sydney-based WMC, which was formerly known as White Motor.
The appointment was announced by Mr Pecotic, who has guided the company’s acquisition of Australian distribution rights for Higer Bus, JAC Trucks and LDV Vans over the past few years.
He said Mr Bamford would bring more than 25 years’ experience in project management, finance, corporate strategy and governance to the role of CEO of WMC Group.
“His experience will be vital in steering the company through its next major growth phase,” he said.
“WMC Group has grown rapidly over the past five years and the board felt it was vital to bring someone with Neil’s management expertise and knowledge into the business to ensure the company is well positioned for the future.
“Neil’s extensive knowledge of management and finance in particular will be invaluable as WMC Group continues its expansion and growth trajectory.”Mr Bamford’s 25-year CV includes stints with Allco Finance, Societe Generale, Babcock and Brown, AMP, BHP and Price Waterhouse Coopers.
This month, WMC will launch its new range of Chinese-made, British-designed LDV V80 passenger and cargo vans, taking on the likes of Hyundai, Toyota and VW in the van market.
LDV vans are made by China’s biggest motor company, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), which acquired Britain’s Leyland DAF Vans in 2009 and moved the operation to China.
