MITSUBISHI has introduced a limited-edition Triton GLX+ that adds more standard equipment, but keeps pricing static for its entry-level 4x4 workhorse.
Based on the all-wheel-drive Triton double-cab GLX, the GLX+ gains 16-inch wheels, reversing camera, 6.1-inch colour touchscreen and rear step bumper over existing standard features.
The Triton GLX comes equipped with cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming, USB input, multi-function steering wheel, seven airbags, air-conditioning and hill start assist as standard, as well as an Easy Select 4WD system and electronic control transfer shift dial for accessible off-roading.
The GLX+ carries the same sticker price as the GLX, $36,990 before on-road costs for the six-speed manual, while an optional five-speed automatic transmission incurs a $2500 price premium, raising the cost to $39,490.
Power still comes courtesy of a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, making 133kW of power and 430Nm of torque, and braked towing capacity is rated at 3100kg.
Mitsubishi launched its new Triton in April last year and has registered 6312 4x4 workhorses in the first four months of the year, making it the Japanese car-maker’s most popular model.
In the 4x4 pick-up segment, the Triton is the third most popular choice behind the Toyota HiLux (9363) and the Ford Ranger (9172).
