SUBARU has a strong and loyal following in Australia forged by a range of exclusively four-wheel driven vehicles – apart from the BRZ sportscar – that the Japanese car-maker says is perfectly suited to our harsh environment of extremes.
Part of that following was attracted to the rally dominating Impreza WRX but the company also produced a larger sedan, the sixth-generation of which has just arrived on Australian turf.
With so much tough competition in the mid-to-large-sized segment, Subaru's biggest sedan is not as much of a volume seller as it was back in the 1990s, but with a revised interior and exterior, more frugal engines and a reduced pricing, Subaru has grand designs for the Liberty.
We took the new Liberty for a thrash around eastern Victoria's winding bush roads to see if its fresh styling, boosted equipment and all-paw grip can meet the company's target to double sales.
