Small SUVs are big business in Australia, and no other major segment is growing as fast.
When Mitsubishi introduced its ASX offering to the segment in 2010, a combination of fresh styling and good value ensured its place along side the big players from Nissan and Hyundai.
A choice of automatic and manual petrol versions were offered, but the lack of an auto for the punchy 1.8 diesel option meant the oil-burner was a niche seller only.
Finally, though, Mitsubishi has introduced a much-needed auto diesel combination, and with this long-awaited update comes a diesel power boost as well.
The effect could be just what Mitsubishi needs to stay buoyant in the booming segment.
