VOLKSWAGEN has given its entry level Polo a substantial mid-life upgrade to maintain its appeal in the hard-fought small hatchback segment. The revised model qualifies as more than a facelift as 60 per cent of its components are new. The outgoing model's 1.6-litre engine is replaced by a smaller 1.4-litre unit, but both performance and economy are said to be improved. Polo's styling upgrades are effective, endowing it with more than a passing resemblance to its larger Golf sibling.
