JUST two months after launching the all-new Freelander 2, Land Rover has introduced a series of option packs the compact SUV.
It is not a matter of having to boost sales, though, because the new Freelander accounted for as many sales in its first full month on sale (87 in August) as the previous model managed for the whole of last year.
Having launched in Australia six months to a year after the rest of the world, it seems that Land Rover Australia is simply catching up with production for the 2008 model year.
Prices for the four models launched in July (petrol and diesel variants in both SE and HSE grades) have not changed, starting at $49,990.
There are now three new option packs available in addition to the previous ‘Technology’ pack, which is available only on the upper HSE models and now costs $1000 more at $7890, but with the addition of a premium Alpine surround sound system with some 13 speakers and a sub-woofer.
Also available only on HSE models is the ‘Premium’ pack at $2990, which includes body colour bumpers and side sills, rear spoiler, 19-inch 10-spoke alloys, a covered centre console compartment with roller shutter cover and front seats with extra adjustability and different trim.
The ‘Style’ pack at $2990 is for the SE only and includes a few HSE features (Bi-Xenon headlights with automatic levelling), 17-inch alloys and auto-dimming mirror) while a ‘Cold Climate’ pack with heated front seats, windscreen and washers is available on all models for $1200.
