JAGUAR’S latest version of the XK8 convertible might have arrived with accusations of being too soft to be a driver’s car, but a new 4.2-litre engine and a slick six-speed transmission tend to take care of that. The XK8 is quite handy in the tight stuff as well as being the consummate boulevard cruiser. And with its flowing, very Jaguar lines it is also a wonderful thing to behold. The compromise is in the cockpit, which laughably contains not two but four seats, even though the space for two up front is already barely enough. The boot isn’t bad though, and the interior is trimmed, as a Jaguar should be, with plenty of leather and real wood. And, considering the fact it’s able to acquit itself effectively on tight, winding roads, the ride is smooth and comfortable, very much in the Jaguar mould.
