A QUICK glance at the latest sales figures in the light car segment highlights the shift from small city runabout hatches to higher riding crossovers.
Despite a 16 per cent overall drop across the light car segment in 2016, the Mazda2 still found 13,639 homes – enough for second place behind the Hyundai Accent.
Even with its strong recent sales performances, Mazda has decided to update the baby hatch and sedan that has been on sale in its current form since October 2014 (the sedan arrived in August 2015), bolstering safety technology and adding a new variant – the range-topping GT.
But is the mild update enough to keep the Mazda2 towards the front of the pack in what is a declining segment?
