Porsche Australia recalls 239 sportscars

PORSCHE Cars Australia (PCA) has recalled 239 examples of its 911 Carrera, Boxster and Cayman two-door sportscars for a potential loose screw connection on the fuel collection pipes.

According to Porsche, the call back is part of a worldwide initiative involving 16,429 vehicles and will encompass pre-emptive repairs to affected cars.

PCA public relations director Paul Ellis confirmed there were no reported cases in Australia with “less than a handful of cars (affected), globally” and reaffirmed the recall “is just a precautionary measure”.

The only reported symptom that the screw connection has loosened is the smell of fuel, according to Mr Ellis, and owners of affected vehicles will be contacted directly by PCA.

Porsche will inspect and replace the fastening screws with improved and augmented components free of charge at authorised workshops.

Porsche launched its current all-turbo 718-series Boxster in June last year, with last year’s sales totalling 172 for the drop-top model.

The fixed-roof Cayman counterpart launched late last year and managed to clock 285 sales over the 12-month period.

Porsche’s latest-generation turbocharged 911 landed in Australian showrooms in early 2016, with 422 examples finding new homes last year.
