LEXUS is recalling about 10,800 LS, GS and IS sedans, the IS C coupe-convertible and IS F sports sedan built between September 2005 and August 2010 over a potential fuel system leak.
The campaign is part of a global Toyota recall of more than 1.75 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles, but Toyota Australia media and external affairs manager Beck Angel told GoAuto it only affects the Lexus premium brand in this country.
In a media release, Lexus says the recall is “due to the possibility that the sealing property of the gasket between the fuel pressure sensor and the fuel delivery pipe could become degraded”.
“If this occurs, fuel could leak past the gasket during vehicle operation, potentially increasing the risk of a fire hazard.”No accidents, injuries or fires have been reported in Australia in relation to the recall.
Owners of affected vehicles will be invited to make an appointment at a Lexus dealership, where a new fuel pressure sensor gasket will be installed. The process is estimated to take between three and four hours and will be done free of charge to the customer.
Lexus owners requiring further information are encouraged to contact Lexus customer assistance on 1800 023 009.
According to
Automotive News, the worldwide Toyota/Lexus recall also includes more than 800,000 vehicles sold in Asian markets.
Potential brake system issues linked to a degrading rubber seal affect Crown and Crown Majesta sedans as well as Noah and Voxy people-carriers built between June 2007 and June 2012, while another 190,000 Rumion (sold here as Rukus) and Auris (Corolla) cars have been recalled in Japan over potential fuel leaks linked to emission control systems.
Prior to this latest recall, 2014 was already a record year for vehicle recalls both globally and in Australia.
