Ford Transit van drivers warned to slow down

BY BARRY PARK | 13th Mar 2013

FORD is asking the drivers of almost 4000 Transit trade vans to slow down after identifying a problem with the brakes.

The car-maker has issued a recall to fix the rear brake lines in Transit vans built between May 2010 and August last year after it identified that the brake pipe bracket fitted to the rear axle could loosen over time.

“If the defect occurs there may be failure of the rear brake pipe, loss of brake fluid, and significantly reduced brake performance. This poses a hazard to the driver and other road users,” the recall notice posted on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission website says.

“Ford advises owners to drive with caution and at moderate speed until the inspection and rectification of the vehicle has occurred.”The car-maker says it will contact affected Transit owners by letter.
