THE V8-engined version of the S-Type adds extra punch to the slinky-looking Jaguar but does not turn it into an M5. Surprisingly, the heavy Jag needs to be coaxed to give its best - which it eventually does, with some gusto - suggesting anxious times at the petrol pumps. On-road dynamics are excellent, if not as supple as an XJ sedan and the interior is cosy rather than generous.
The smallish boot benefits from a big, useful split-fold rear seat.
