JUST how could it be that, in 2008, only Hyundai offers a large diesel-powered four-door sedan as defined by the VFACTS sales registration categorisations? Incredible but true, and that’s enough justification for us to seek out and sample the smooth new Grandeur CRDi turbo-diesel version. Priced at $2000 above the continuing (though also slightly facelifted) V6 petrol model, the flagship Hyundai presents an intriguing proposition for family car buyers. We weren’t expecting a BMW-style ultimate driving machine, but the Grandeur CRDi could well have more appeal than the rather softly sprung petrol version.
