DODGE has added a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine to its Caliber hatch.
Sourced from VW, the engine develops 103kW/310Nm and is mated to a six-speed manual that delivers fuel economy of 6.0L/100km.
No automatic is available, according to Dodge spokesman, Simon Johnson.
The turbo-diesel is a 2000-bar direct-injection engine with high-pressure fuel injection, dual balance shafts, a variable geometry turbocharger and four valves per cylinder.
In addition the 2.0-litre diesel, like the 2.4-litre petrol models, adds stability control and traction Control and brake assist as standard.
The diesel powered engine is available in three Caliber models - ST, SX and SXT - with prices starting from just $28,990 for the ST 2.0-litre CRD.
Dodge is selling about 60 Calibers a month with the 2.0-litr SXT being the most popular model.
The brand will be expanded this year to include the Nitro four-wheel drive and mid-size Avenger sedan.
