Realising this opportunity, niche-segment specialist Volkswagen steps in first with its Caddy Life TDI, a Golf-based, van-derived people-mover aimed at frugal urbanites. There’s also a $28,000 1.6-litre opener to create Australia’s cheapest seven-seater. How the Caddy Life performs in the market place, VW admits it has no idea. However, we do know that Kia, Hyundai and even Honda should start worrying.
