THE launch of a new-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is something of an automotive event, because you can be sure every iteration will introduce a brace of new and exciting technologies to the automotive landscape.
In the case of this version, the 222-Series, you find features such as full-LED lighting across the board, and an optional (circa-$10,000) system that ‘reads’ the road ahead and makes minute adjustments to the dynamic setup.
And because it also serves as a pseudo-replacement for the defunct Maybach, Mercedes has also bent over backwards to make the already opulent cabin even more so – or so it claims.
Is the new S-Class therefore, as Mercedes itself claims with no small amount of hubris, “the best car in the world”?
Quite possibly.
