UNTIL the iconic Italian purveyor of performance and outlandish looks, Lamborghini was taken over by Audi, the quality of some of its models was questionable.

But with the arrival of some German attention to detail, the company started making cars that were screwed together as beautifully as they looked.

Technology sharing also bred a new more accessible model dubbed the Gallardo that was closely related to the Audi R8 supercar, and that car evolved into this – the new Huracan.

With the same underpinnings as the second-generation Audi R8, the Huracan combines supercar pace and unmistakable Lamborghini looks with the quality you expect from a luxury German brand.

Past models such as the Diablo and Countach tested the patience of many owners, but Lamborghini claims the Huracan is the easiest model to live with to date.

Priced from $428,000 before on-road costs and the minefield that is the options list, the Huracan has Ferrari's new 488 GTB in its sights, but has the Audi influence dowsed its Italian fire?
