Holden heralds MY12 Cruze

HOLDEN has announced an upgraded model year 2012 Cruze sedan range, which will be joined in showrooms by the all-new Australian-designed Cruze hatchback in mid-November.

Accompanied by price increases of between $250 and $500 across the range, the MY12 Cruze sedan will gain Bluetooth connectivity as standard on all models, plus two new exterior paint colours that will also become available for this month’s MY12 Commodore.

Perfect Blue - a bright solid blue based on Peter Brock’s Formula Blue - will replace Voodoo, while Chlorophyll - a metallic teal - will replace Poison Ivy for both Australian-made models.

While Bluetooth is currently a $600 dealer-fit accessory for the Cruze, Holden has applied a $250 price increase at base level, taking the entry-level Cruze CD 1.8-litre petrol manual price from $20,990 to $21,240 plus on-road costs.

All other mainstream Cruze models are also $250 more expensive than before, except the flagship SRi and SRi-V models, which cost $500 more at a respective $24,990 and $28,490 (manual, plus on-road costs).

While the standard fitment of Bluetooth matches the recent move made by a number of brands including Volkswagen with its Golf, Holden said the SRi models will receive further upgrades that will not be revealed until closer to their release.

As expected, Holden has also confirmed the revised Cruze sedan prices will also apply to the upcoming new Cruze hatch, without which the small sedan has become Australia’s third best selling passenger car this year - just 5579 sales short of the Commodore and 6050 sales behind the Mazda3 range.

“Bluetooth has become an increasingly important feature for many motorists so it made sense to make it standard on Holden’s second best-selling car line,” said Holden’s director of marketing, Simon Carr.

“Bluetooth is now standard across a number of Holden’s most popular car lines including Commodore, the all-new Barina and now Cruze.

“The Cruze CD and CDX range’s recommended retail price will increase by just $250 while the SRi and SRi-V models will increase by $500 to take into account other new inclusions to be announced closer to launch,” he said.

“We’ve made a commitment that the Cruze range will continue to stand for outstanding value for money and when you take into account the amount of standard features and its five-star safety credentials, it’s hard to argue.”
