TOYOTA has lowered the price of its RAV4 by almost $5000 by introducing its first front-wheel drive version of Australia’s former top-selling compact SUV and slashing $1800 from the price of all existing AWD models.
The addition of a 2WD variant – revealed exclusively by GoAuto early last month – will reduce the RAV4’s starting price to $28,990, while the lower RAV4 price list revealed today sees the entry-level CV open the AWD RAV4 range at $31,990 (down from $33,790).
While identical price cuts have been applied to the RAV4 Cruiser (now $36,990), Cruiser L ($41,990), CV6 auto ($39,990), SX6 auto ($44,990) and flagship ZR6 auto ($49,990), the new RAV4 2WD will be available in two specifications, with the top-shelf Cruiser 2WD priced at $33,990 and an automatic transmission adding $2000 to both versions.
As with the current RAV4 AWD range, metallic paint remains a $350 optional extra, although Toyota also lists a $1250 optional enhanced safety pack for the new base 2WD CV variant.
The top-spec RAV4 2WD Cruiser comes with similar equipment to the equivalent AWD model grade, but there are no Cruiser L or V6 versions of the front-drive RAV.
As we’ve reported, the RAV4 facelift revealed at last month’s Geneva motor show will not be applied to Australia’s RAV4, which continues to be out-sold by Subaru’s Forester this year.
