Price rises for new Mercedes-Benz GLA

MERCEDES-BENZ Australia has released pricing and specification for its facelifted GLA small SUV, increasing costs by as much as $5185 while also adding higher levels of standard equipment across its four-variant crossover range.

The GLA receives a subtle styling update with new front and rear bumpers and a tweaked grille for a “more powerful appearance and even great character”, according to Mercedes-Benz.

In exchange for price rises, the GLA gets LED headlights, a redesigned instrument cluster, silver chrome-accented interior and new-look wheels on most variants, as well as hands-free access to the boot via a kicking motion on all grades barring the GLA180.

The price of that entry level GLA180 – powered by a 90kW/200Nm turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine – goes up $300 to $43,900 before on-road costs.

The diesel-powered two-wheel-drive GLA220d rises $800 to $51,200. Its 130kW/350Nm 2.1-litre turbo-diesel four cylinder is carried over.

Pricing of the all-paw GLA250 4Matic remains at $60,700, while outputs from the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine are also unchanged at 155kW/350Nm.

The flagship AMG-fettled GLA45 4Matic features a revised 2.0-litre twin-scroll turbo engine producing 15kW/25Nm more than before at 280kW of power and 475Nm of torque, while costs climb to $89,500 – $5185 more expensive than the outgoing version.

The German car-maker is also offering an optional 360-degree parking camera for the first time as part of either the Vision or Parking Packages, but pricing has yet to be revealed.

Buyers looking to differentiate their vehicle from the standard fare can opt for a White Art Edition pack for the GLA180, 220d and 250, while AMG 45 customers have access to the Yellow Night Edition.

The White Art Edition option bundles sports seats, a sports steering wheel, microfibre trim, black interior, white air vent surrounds, 19-inch bi-colour wheels and a striped external decal for an addition $3780 on top of GLA180 and 220d prices. The package on these models includes the AMG Line pack. GLA250 buyers shell out only an extra $3280.

The Yellow Night Edition on the other hand, packs AMG Performance seats and steering wheel, AMG Aerodynamics Package and 20-inch AMG alloy wheels, as well as yellow-accented interior, front apron, side sills, side mirrors, rear diffuser and spoiler endplates.

Mercedes is asking an additional $3990 for this eye-catching optional package.
