The Ford Ranger is a workhorse ute designed and developed in Australia, but produced in Brazil, South Africa and Thailand.

It is a rugged workhorse using a tough ladder frame – unlike monocoque car-based machines such as the Falcon ute – and consequently has a massive towing capacity of up to 3350kg or can carry up to 1528kg in the back. High-riding 4x2 and 4x4 models can also wade to depths of 800mm.

The Ranger is available as a single-cab, slightly larger super-cab and full five- or six-seat double-cab. Engines include an entry-level 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder, a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel and a range-topping 3.2-litre inline five-cylinder turbo-diesel.

Standard safety equipment includes electronic stability control on all models and six airbags on all models except for the cab-chassis single-cab XL.
