TO COMMEMORATE the launch of the fifth-generation Civic Type R hot hatch arriving in dealerships this month, Honda Australia is offering a Red Edition bodykit pack for all non-Type R hatchback variants – excluding RS – at an extra $2498 including fitment.
Limited to just 228 vehicles – representing the 228kW power output of the Type R’s 2.0-litre VTEC engine – the Red Edition pack is available with four exterior hues, white orchid pearlescent, lunar silver metallic, sonic grey pearlescent and crystal black pearlescent.
Visual tweaks include 17-inch black alloy wheels, red floor mats and red-accented front and rear under spoilers and side skirts, available on all VTi, VTi-S, VTi-L and VTi-LX hatch models.
Pricing has remained unchanged on all Civic variants, starting from $22,390 before on-roads and topping out at $33,590.
The Red Edition follows in the footsteps of the Black Pack, developed for the launch of the Civic sedan last year, and the Orange Pack, released earlier this year for the Civic hatch, both of which sold out according to Honda.
Honda Australia director Stephen Collins said the Red Edition offered Civic customers the chance to enhance the look of their vehicle.
“Customers love the boldness of the Honda Civic sedan and hatch and the eye-catching ‘Red Edition’ is an attention-grabbing styling statement for Civic customers looking to add some individuality to their cars,” he said.
Honda says it has received over 420 orders for the Civic Type R, as well as 6500 pre-registrations.
Through the first three quarters of 2017, Honda has sold 10,270 examples of the Civic, representing a hefty 133.3 per cent increase over the 4403 it managed to the same point last year.
10,270 sales is enough to place it sixth for overall sales in the small car segment, behind the Toyota Corolla (28,665), Mazda3 (25,457), Hyundai i30 (21,103), Kia Cerato (14,671) and Volkswagen Golf (13,126).
