Porsche gives Cayman, Boxster GTS treatment

Available to order now ahead of their arrival in Australian dealerships in March 2018, the GTS represents a $27,600 increase over the S variants, with the Cayman GTS coming in at $173,100 plus on-road costs for the six-speed manual, while the Boxster GTS is $175,900.
Opting for the PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission adds $5980 to the price.
Power from the 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet of both cars is now 269kW, an increase of 12kW over the 257kW S, and 26kW more than the previous-generation version of the flat-six naturally aspirated GTS.
Torque is up 10Nm over the Boxster and Cayman S to 430Nm kicking in between 1900-5000rpm.
Porsche says that when combined with the PDK and Sports Chrono Package, the 718 GTS variants have a top speed of 290km/h and can hit 100km/h from standstill in 4.1 seconds – 0.2s quicker than the Cayman S with the PDK.
Fuel use is 9.1 litres per 100km on the combined cycle, while CO2 emissions are 207g/km.
The GTS gains a number of features that are options on other variants, including the Sports Chrono Package, Porsche Torque Vectoring with mechanical rear differential lock and Porsche Active Suspension Management which lowers the body by 10mm.
GTS specific styling flourishes include a Sport Design front bumper, black tinted front light clusters and bi-Xenon headlights, while more black appears at the rear on the logos, lower rear bumper and centrally positioned tailpipes of the sports exhaust.
Black-satin-finish 20-inch wheels and the black GTS logos at the base of the doors round out the visual differences to other variants.
Inside, the GTS has electronically adjustable front sports seats with Alcantara centres and GTS logos on the headrests, as well as more Alcantara on the steering wheel, centre console and armrests.
The stopwatch for the Sport Chrono Package is integrated as a central part of the dashboard, while the optional Porsche Track Precision App allows the driver to automatically record, display and analyse driving data on their smartphone.
So far this year Porsche has sold 119 Boxsters and 168 Caymans in Australia, which represents a drop of 19 per cent and 35.4 per cent respectively.
The heavily revised Boxster with the new four-pot engine arrived in Australia in June last year, with the Cayman lobbing shortly after.
