Mitsubishi adds entry-level Eclipse Cross to range

BY ROBBIE WALLIS | 5th Sep 2018

MITSUBISHI Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has introduced a new entry-level variant to its recently-released Eclipse Cross small-SUV range, with the new ES reducing the price of entry to less than $30,000.

The addition of the at $29,990 plus on-road costs ES brings the number of variants to four, with Mitsubishi adjusting the price of the LS up from $30,500 to $31,990. The pricing for the Exceed ($36,000) and Exceed AWD ($38,500) has not changed.

MMAL said it hoped to offer the ES when the Eclipse Cross was launched at the start of the year, but it could not get supply of the vehicle from Japan until now. It says the range is now complete with the addition of the ES.

The ES is offered with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), front foglights, side turn lamp in the door mirror, heated door mirrors, and a roof spoiler, while interior specification includes a 7.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, DAB+ digital radio, Bluetooth voice commands, six speakers, dual-zone air-conditioning and paddle shifters.

Standard safety specification includes seven airbags, forward collision mitigation, reversing camera, dusk-sensing headlights, rain-sensing wipers, Isofix child restraints, and a theft alarm and immobiliser.

The LS adds lane departure warning, front and rear corner sensors, silver and chrome highlights on the front and rear bumpers, keyless entry and start, electric parking brake and folding door mirrors.

Top-spec Exceed versions gain active cruise control, blind spot warning and lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, surround-view monitor, auto-levelling LED headlights, double sunroof, dual-zone air-conditioning, head-up display and leather seats with front heating.

All versions employ the same 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine outputting 110kW at 5500rpm and 250Nm from 2000-3500rpm, teamed to a continuously variable transmission. All variants except the Exceed AWD drive the front wheels.

MMAL president and CEO John Signoriello said the new version would appeal to buyers looking for a stylish SUV.

“The Eclipse Cross ES makes a very desirable package with Mitsubishi’s eye-catching styling combined with the latest in vehicle audio and infotainment systems, sophisticated interior design and advanced safety,” he said.

“The Eclipse Cross ES is the perfect choice for discerning customers who don’t want to compromise on style or driving dynamics.”

Since launching at the start of the year, Mitsubishi has found 4602 homes for the Eclipse Cross, in a segment led by its ASX stablemate with 12,596 sales.
