Nissan uncovers bespoke Navaras

NISSAN has revealed two bespoke Navara pick-ups ahead of this year’s IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hannover, the Dark Sky Concept and N-Guard, with the latter a chance to make it Down Under.
 
When asked by GoAuto if the special utes would be made available to local customers, Nissan Australia corporate communications manager Tony Mee singled out the Navara N-Guard as “a great-looking vehicle”.
 
“While it is not currently available in Australia, it is definitely a vehicle that we would like to offer to our customers in the future,” he said.
 
The Navara N-Guard is already available to European customers and includes a small number of design changes to stand out against its rivals.
 
The front grille, roof rails, foglight surrounds, side steps, door handles, sideview mirrors, rear bumper and 18-inch alloy wheels are all painted black, while the headlights are also tinted.
 
Bespoke decals are also fitted to overseas N-Guard grades, which are available in three exterior colours – Twilight Grey, Storm White and Metallic Black.
 
Meanwhile, the Navara Dark Sky Concept, which was developed in the UK in conjunction with the European Space Agency, comes equipped with a mobile astronomy lab and a more advanced version of Nissan’s ProPilot drive assist technology.
 
With a unique trailer module, the Dark Sky Concept can cart around a PlaneWave telescope to remote locations where light pollution will not affect stargazing.
 
Nissan senior vice-president of light-commercial vehicles (LCVs) Ashwani Gupta said the two bespoke Navaras showcase the vehicle’s versatility.
 
“The tough pick-up trucks on display are the perfect embodiment of Nissan’s dedication to excellence in conversions,” he said.
 
“Power by Nissan Intelligent Mobility and including ProPilot, the incredible versatility of each vehicle allows us to go above and beyond to support any business need and serve as an authentic partner for our customers.” 
 
In Australia, Nissan has found 10,607 new homes for its Navara in the first eight months of the year to place it sixth in the one-tonne pick-up segment, despite an update that launched in February.
 
 
Year to date, the Navara trails the market-leading Toyota HiLux (34,424), Ford Ranger (28,571), Mitsubishi Triton (16,985), Holden Colorado (12,504) and Isuzu D-Max (11,900), but is Nissan’s second-best selling nameplate behind the X-Trail medium SUV on 14,037.
