GENESIS has ripped the covers off its heavily facelifted G90 upper-large luxury sedan, however an Australian debut remains off the cards due to production remaining a left-hand-drive only.
The updated version of the brand’s flagship vehicle ushers in new styling, refinement and technology, which the company says will “continue to spearhead our global brand identity”.
Visually, the new G90 is clearly distinguishable from its predecessor with a new headlight design called Quad Lamps, showing the more squared-off headlight clusters split horizontally by an LED lighting strip.
The headlights are separated by the G90’s hulking mesh grille which has been restyled, as has the front bumper.
At the rear, the Quad Lamps theme continues with tail-lights that stretch across the bootlid in a single, unbroken pattern, designed to evoke the winged Genesis logo.
Both the headlights and tail-lights score Genesis’ G-Matrix diamond lighting pattern, which can also be applied to the optional 19-inch alloys that also feature sound absorption technology to reduce tyre noise.
Nine exterior colours will be offered on the new G90, including two new hues – Porto Red and Gold Coast Silver.
Ride comfort is enhanced with the use of active control suspension with electric damping to minimise vibrations and road imperfections, and increase vehicle dynamism.
Inside, the cabin has been reworked to provide a cleaner, more minimalist layout, including a revised 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system embedded into the dash that has been re-engineered to allow users to zoom in and out of the touchscreen.
The touchscreen is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link, while active noise cancellation ensures noise, vibration and harshness levels are improved while not compromising the users’ audio experience.
Cabin air is optimised through the use of a system that detects when the car is driving through particularly polluted air, and will switch the air-con system to recirculation mode.
The G90 will be offered with a full suite of active safety features including active lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward and rear cross-traffic assist and collision avoidance, safe exit assist (which warns occupants when an object is approaching an opening door) and ten airbags.
No mention has been made of the G90’s powerplant, which suggests the current crop of engines – including a twin-turbo 3.3-litre V6, aspirated 3.8-litre V6 and 5.0-litre V8 – all mated to an eight-speed auto – will carry over unchanged.
Genesis says the refreshed G90 will be sold into “additional markets” beginning next year, and will be followed by three new global SUVs by 2021.
