SKODA has continued teasing its upcoming Scala small hatchback ahead of its December 6 reveal, showing off production images of its interior while teasing the exterior decked out in colourful Lennon Wall graffiti-inspired camouflage.
The Scala’s interior takes the design cues from the Vision RS concept revealed at this year’s Paris motor show, with a cockpit that is both unique in its layout and still clearly a Volkswagen Group product.
Taking centre stage in the Scala’s interior is the free-standing infotainment display that measures 9.2 inches in size, which Skoda says is the largest in its segment.
Below, the touchscreen is framed by a wood trim piece that extends from the instrument cluster to the passenger door, and acts as an ergonomic wrist rest when operating the touchscreen.
Underneath sit the controls for the air-conditioning cluster with a small ‘DS digital’ screen, followed by a flat storage area for items such as phones and wallets.
Flanking the gear shifter is a set of buttons for the idle-stop function, parking aids and drive mode select, while leather/microfibre upholstery, a manual parking brake, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and digital instrument cluster also feature.
As previously reported, the Scala will feature a generous 467 litres of cargo space, which can increase to 1410L with the rear seats folded flat.
The Czech brand also showed off the exterior camouflaged in graffiti to match the famous Lennon Wall in Prague, showing a single image of the Scala in profile painted in a range of colourful hues.
Little is revealed from the camouflaged picture, other than the Scala will sport modestly sized alloy wheels, and will feature slim LED headlights similar to the Vision RS concept.
The Scala’s roof line slopes gently downwards towards the rear, while a subtle rear spoiler and front splitter add sporty touches.
Skoda is yet to announce which engines will be used in the Australian-spec Scala, however in Europe five powertrians will be offered, including a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol three cylinder borrowed from the Volkswagen Polo in either 70kW or 85kW states of tune.
Other powertrain options include a turbo-diesel outputting 85kW, and a 110kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four cylinder, which could also be mated to a plug-in hybrid electric motor as seen in the RS Vision concept to create a hot hatch to rival the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Full details of the Scala will be revealed when the model is unveiled in Tel Aviv on December 6.
