All-Terrain concept foreshadows Lagonda relaunch

ASTON Martin will unveil its new Lagonda All-Terrain concept vehicle at the Geneva motor show next month as it gears up to relaunch its luxury sub-brand with a zero-emissions SUV.

A single front-on teaser image shows a futuristic high-riding SUV with a wide track, narrow headlights and an unconventional grille synonymous with electrified concept vehicles.

Lagonda has been in possession of Aston Martin since 1947 and is now planning a relaunch that will start with a road-going version of the All-Terrain concept in 2021.

It will also release a second vehicle in 2023, likely a two-door coupe as previewed by the Lagonda Vision Concept revealed at last year’s Geneva motor show.

The Vision Concept was a long and low-slung pure-electric vehicle that featured a stretch-limousine-esque interior and art deco styling, and the All-Terrain concept is expected to continue that theme.

According to Aston Martin Lagonda president and CEO Andy Palmer, the All-Terrain concept will hint at what to expect when the next Lagonda enters production.

“The Lagonda All-Terrain Concept offers explicit clues regarding what will be the first Lagonda model to enter production and further demonstrates how Lagonda’s zero-emission powertrain enables us to create spectacular cars that will radically redefine their sectors of the market,” he said.
 

“I’m expecting the Aston Martin Lagonda stand to be busier than ever, and very much look forward to seeing the crowd’s reaction first-hand.”

Details are still scarce, though the brand has a clear focus on zero emissions and autonomous technology.

“Lagonda aims to be the world’s first zero-emission luxury brand, a reinvention of the world-renowned luxury marque, unapologetically taking full advantage of the latest advances in emission-free powertrain and autonomous driving technologies,” it said in a statement last year.

It is unclear what kind of powertrains are in development by Lagonda, although with conventional internal-combustion engines ruled out, hydrogen fuel-cell or battery-electric set-ups are definite possibilities.

Aston Martin will also use this year’s Geneva motor show to display its Vantage, DB11 AMR and DBS Superleggera models.
