Geneva show: Lambo outs Aventador SVJ Roadster

BY SPENCER LEECH | 5th Mar 2019

LAMBORGHINI has cut the top off its Aventador SVJ, sharing the same specs as its coupe sibling at the expense of an additional 50 kilograms in total kerb weight.

The Roadster tips the scales at 1575kg, and will sprint from zero to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds – just 0.1 seconds slower than the tin-top Aventador SVJ.

Sharing the coupe’s mechanical and aerodynamic package, the Roadster uses removable carbon-fibre panels that can be stored in the boot to achieve the open-top motoring effect.

Meanwhile, an electrically operated rear window acts as a wind deflector when closed, and can be opened to amplify exhaust tone into the cabin.

Power is drawn from the familiar 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 delivering 556kW at 8500 rpm and 720Nm at 6750rpm.

Top speed is pegged at over 350km/h, and braking is equally as impressive with the SVJ capable of coming to a halt from 100km/h in just 31 metres.

Carbon-ceramic brakes are used to achieve this figure, with the discs measuring 400mm (front) and 2780mm (rear) with six- and four-piston grabbers, respectively.

The SVJ uses the Raging Bull’s Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva 2.0 aerodynamics system which includes active flaps in the front splitter and rear wing, which constantly adapt to driving conditions to maximise downforce and braking capabilities.

Other features include rear-wheel steering for high-speed stability, as well as unique steering, transmission and driveline tunes.

Over the SV Roadster, the SVJ generates 40 per cent more downforce, and is 50 per cent more rigid thanks to unique anti-roll bars.

Wheels measure 20 inches at the front, and 21 at the rear, and are wrapped in bespoke Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.

European deliveries will commence mid-year with pricing starting at €387,007 ($A620,000), however Lamborghini’s local wing is yet to confirm pricing and availability details.

For reference, the Aventador SJV coupe wears a $949,640 before on-road costs sticker price, so expect to see the drop-top version hit the seven figures.
