CES: Chrysler Airflow Vision concept revealed

FIAT Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has waded into the distant future of the car after it revealed its Airflow Vision concept at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) last week.

Said by Chrysler to be “a sculptural design concept that envisions the next generation of premium transportation”, the Airflow Vision and will use technology and digital interfaces to optimise a journey experience.

Based on the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV and fitted with the next generation of FCA’s UX (User Experience) system, the Airflow Vision’s focus is on how occupants could interact with technology to enhance a journey and uses a menu-based format to personalise the arrangement and appearance of the car’s screens.

The flat floor allows for a spacious interior “accented by a light, calming colour palette” comprised largely of suede and leather materials.

To help maximise cabin space, each seat has been made almost as slim as possible and sits on pedestal base allowing for more head, shoulder and legroom as well as greater comfort, according to Chrysler.

The customisation options don’t just stop with the infotainment system, with passengers and drivers alike able to control and tweak the ambient lighting to their liking.

Exterior-wise, Chrysler has kept the vehicle’s name in mind with a sleek and slippery looking body, albeit with a very Porsche Cayenne-sequel rear end and tail-light arrangement.

Chrysler says the “wheels are inspired by mechanical elements of an electric motor and give the sense of motion similar to the internal mechanisms of a watch”.

The body is finished in ‘Arctic White’ paint with a ‘Celestial Blue’ underbody.
