MERCEDES-AMG Australia has revealed a new limited edition C63 S Coupe brandishing extra aero enhancements and a unique trim package, limited to just 63 examples between Australia and New Zealand.
Dubbed the Aero Edition 63 and priced from $188,600 plus on-road costs, the limited-edition coupe carries a hefty $17,200 premium over the standard car but adds a series of unique wind tunnel tested aero tweaks including an AMG Performance rear spoiler, unique front lip, aerodynamically optimised diffuser and bigger rear air ducts.
Under the skin, stopping power now comes courtesy of internally ventilated and perforated ceramic discs measuring 402mm up front, gripped by six piston callipers while a floating single pot setup takes care of things at the back in conjunction with 360mm rear discs.
The body itself has been given a few carbon-fibre highlights here and there, including the front apron A-wing, inserts in the side sills, rear diffuser, rear spoiler and the exterior mirror housings with the whole package rolling on staggered matte black AMG twin-spoke forged alloy wheels (19-inch front, 20-inch rear).
The tweaks have not just been left for the exterior, with carbon-fibre inserts also used liberally within the cabin, especially on the centre console trim as well as the top and bottom of the flat-bottomed AMG Performance steering wheel.
AMG Performance seats come fitted as standard finished with a unique yellow-striped, grey Nappa leather upholstery, exclusive to the Aero Edition 63.
Elsewhere in the cabin, the yellow striping theme is continued with subtle highlighting across the rear seats, doors and centre console.
Everything else on the standard equipment list reads word-for-word as it does for the regular C63 S Coupe, meaning customers still get multibeam LED headlights, power adjustable and heated front seats, head-up display, automatic climate control, Air-Balance with oxygen ionisation, air filtering and fragrances and an AMG-specific analogue clock.
Standard safety equipment includes nine airbags, autonomous emergency braking, the Driver Assistance Package Plus suite which features active lane-change assist and adaptive cruise control with stop and go, traffic-sign assist, tyre pressure monitoring and a surround-view camera.
No mechanical changes have been made to the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine, meaning the same 375kW of power and 700Nm of torque is still sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Just two colourways are being offered on the C63 S Coupe Aero Edition 63; Polar White or Iridium Silver while all examples will be adorned with unique ‘1 of only 63’ badging.
So far this year ending February, Mercedes-Benz has sold 239 C-Class Coupes and Convertibles, dominating the $80,000+ sportscar segment with 40.9 per cent of the market share.
Despite the domination, sales are still down 14 per cent on the same period last year while its closest sales rival – fittingly – is the BMW 4 Series with 55 sales so far this year (9.4 per cent market share).
