Lamborghini starts producing breathing simulators

ITALIAN supercar specialist Lamborghini has announced a new venture with Siare Engineering International Group to help engineer and produce breathing simulators in a bid to accelerate the evaluation process of critically needed ventilators.

Using resources and equipment from its Research and Development Department, the Raging Bull has taken less than two weeks to design, produce and validate the simulator in its 3D print laboratory, the same facility being used to make the previously reported-on medical visors.

With production now in full swing, the brand expects to produce 18 units per week.

“The breathing simulator enables the tester to carry out an initial evaluation of the ventilator’s performance before reaching the final checking stage, when the ventilator undergoes a comprehensive test using certified equipment,” a spokesperson said.

“The capacity to collaborate shown by these two Emilia-based manufacturers of technologically advanced products – both leading companies in their respective, though completely different, sectors – is further proof of the sense of responsibility and cohesion displayed by Italy’s companies, as they join forces in the battle against the pandemic.”

Lamborghini isn’t the first brand to partner with Siare Engineering in recent times, the other being Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) which entered its own partnership with the Italian ventilator producer late last month.

According to an FCA spokesperson, the group is expecting to see a 30-50 per cent drop in the production times of the ventilators.

Lamborghini meanwhile has been busy producing 1000 medical masks and 200 face shields per day, almost all of which are being donated to staff at the Sant’Orsola-Malpighi Hospital in Bologna.

“The S. Orsola-Malpighi Hospital is an institution with which we have had a collaborative relationship for years, through both professional consultancy in promoting programs to protect our workers’ health, and in research projects,” Lamborghini chairman and CEO Stefano Domenicali said when the project started.
