LESS than a month after tweaking and updating its Pik-Up off-road ute for 2020, Indian manufacturer Mahindra has launched a new flagship variant of its venerable pickup truck, the Black Edition mHawk.
Priced from $39,990 driveaway, the Black Edition mHawk is based on the now second tier Dual Cab 4x4 S10+ ($32,990 driveaway) and was previously available as a limited edition.
For 2020 Mahindra has decided to make it a permanent member of the Pik-Up range, brandishing more rugged (black) styling cues and adorned with extra standard equipment.
Under the bonnet resides the same 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 103kW of power and 320Nm of torque, sending drive to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
For the extra $7000 over a the 4x4 S10+, Black Edition mHawk scores a steel bull bar, side steps, alloy sports bar, wheelarch flares, custom decal kit, 17-inch rims and tub liner – all finished in black – as standard.
Inside, the standard equipment list reads the same as it does for the regular S10+, meaning you get a 7.0-inch touchscreen, satellite navigation, reversing camera, Bluetooth, Android Auto, cruise control, fabric seats, rear seat air-conditioning, two Isofix child seat restraints with three top tether points, one-touch lane indicator, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights, hill descent control and hill hold function.
As with every Pik-Up, safety features on the Black Edition mHawk include ESC, ABS, EBD, rollover mitigation and dual front airbags.
Just like the rest of the range, payload capacity is rated at 1095kg while braked towing capacity is capped at 2.5 tonnes.
