Porsche launches Panamera Platinum Edition
PORSCHE is set to offer what it says is a ‘particularly elegant and exclusive version’ of its 971-series Panamera SUV, the Platinum Edition model combining discrete satin-gloss platinum painted design features and an extended equipment list to differentiate it from its derivative variants.
Making its debut at next week’s Los Angeles Auto Show, the special edition treatment will be available across Panamera, Panamera 4, and Panamera 4 E-Hybrid variants.
Highlights of the model include platinum-painted 21-inch Exclusive Design Sport wheels (with 20-inch wheels available optionally), air outlet trims, Porsche logo and model designation and on hybrid models, the ‘e-hybrid’ logo. Contrasting black exhaust outlets, and high-gloss black and Exclusive Design tail-lights round out the exterior transformation.
Inside, the Platinum Edition receives an analogue clock, GT sports steering wheel, heated rear seats, Porsche’s brushed aluminium interior package and door sills in black, and the Porsche crest on the headrests.
The model will be available in Australian showrooms from the second quarter of 2022.
Meanwhile, recent online updates show modest price increases across the Panamera range for 2022. The Panamera 4S e-hybrid receives the smallest price rise of just $2900, taking the list price to $294,600 while Panamera Turbo S and Panamera Turbo S e-hybrid each jump $6300 to $415,700 and $426,500 respectively.
Porsche product line vice-president Dr Thomas Friemuth told GoAuto last year that the Panamera sedan could go all-electric in its next generation, sitting above the Taycan in the German brand’s EV portfolio.
“We have to think ‘where are the markets going’ and we have to now follow what’s happening with our Taycan – our smaller limousine in terms of battery electric vehicles – and then we will see in the future what is happening [with the Panamera],” Dr Friemuth said.
“We don’t see a big overlap between these two cars… it’s a different car from Panamera.
“[The] Panamera is a luxury sedan and sportscar and a big car with a lot of roominess and interior space, and so on, to drive long distances comfortably with four adults… we don’t see much overlap from the customer perspective between Panamera and Taycan,” he concluded.
The Los Angeles Auto Show runs from Friday 19 to Sunday 28 November.
