Ferrari Special Projects creates one-off BR20

ALMOST every year, Ferrari’s Special Projects division crafts a unique, limited-production vehicle for on behalf of a very well-heeled client and the latest is a stunning two-seat V12-powered coupe based upon the GTC4Lusso shooting brake, a model itself inspired by classic Ferraris of the 1950s and 60s.

Named BR20, the one-off coupe does away with the rear seats of the GTC4Lusso in favour of a two-seat cabin with unique new storage compartments. 

The rear hatch door was also removed to give the car a sleeker profile, the body of the GT4CLusso growing by 75mm and featuring a roofline that recalls past models including the 410 Superamerica or 500 Superfast.

The black-painted roof is supported by a flying buttress-style rear pillar that channels air to the rear spoiler. The back end is fitted with the dual tail-light look of the donor car, the shapely rear bar and diffuser designed to work in tandem with active aerodynamic panels beneath the body.

At the front, the wide horizontal grille and thin carbon-fibre splitter are adorned with chrome inserts, the headlights lower and smaller than those of the GTC4Lusso in a demonstration of just how far Ferrari’s coachbuilding abilities extend.

Ferrari says the BR20 uses the same running gear as the donor car, meaning the 6.3-litre F140 ED V12 continues to offer 507kW at 8000rpm and 697Nm at 5750rpm, matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and 4RM Evo all-wheel drive system.

In the GTC4Lusso, Ferrari claims a 0-100km/h time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 335km/h are possible.

The cabin of the BR20 recalls much of the architecture of the donor car and is trimmed in two shades of rich brown leather with carbon-fibre garnishes. The seats are upholstered in Heritage Testa di Moro chocolate brown fine leather with silver cross-stitching, while the rear shelf and bespoke luggage compartment are clad in oak with carbon-fibre accents.

Ferrari has not disclosed the price of the BR20, a car it says was developed for a long-standing customer. In Australia, the Ferrari GTC4Lusso 4RM on which the BR20 is based was priced from A$578,000 plus options and on-road costs.

The Ferrari BR20 is being shown in full at this year’s Finali Mondiali at the Mugello Circuit in Tuscany from November 16 – 22.
