Two new grades, new engine join MY22 BT-50 range
MAZDA Australia has announced pricing of its revised MY22 BT-50 range. The line-up includes a new XS entry-level version, a new low-capacity engine, as well as an additional SP premium variant.
Some variants see price rises as high as $3940, while others are reduced by up to $720.
Now priced from $33,550 plus on-road costs, the BT-50 line-up commences with a 1.9-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel XS variant – it’s a workhorse that arrives as standard with an automatic transmission, in single or dual-cab form and in two- or four-wheel drive guise.
The low-capacity engine produces 110kW and 350Nm and boasts a braked towing capacity of up to 3000kg. Two-wheel drive versions ride on 17-inch steel wheels, while 4x4 variants feature 17-inch alloys. All XS and XT variants now feature LED headlights, cloth upholstery, vinyl flooring, cruise control (adaptive on automatic variants) and a reversing camera.
BT-50 XS and XT variants are equipped with a 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, which incorporates a digital radio (DAB+), Bluetooth connectivity and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Mazda BT-50 is one of only three light commercial utility vehicles in our market to receive a five-star safety rating under ANCAP’s stringent new crash test criteria.
Safety equipment includes a full complement of airbags, attention assist, auto high-beam, AEB, blind spot monitor, emergency lane keeping, hill descent control, hill start assist, lane departure and -keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, plus turn assist.
“Giving customers a diverse and comprehensive product offer is a hallmark of the Mazda business,” Mazda Australia managing director Vinesh Bhindi said.
“We know how important personalisation is for our customers, particularly when it comes to the utility segment. The addition of a new powertrain, a new entry grade, and a stylish new high grade in the SP – combined with the availability of stock – gives our customers more opportunity to find their right vehicle sooner,” he added.
Mr Bhindi said the inclusion of a high-grade SP variant to the BT-50 portfolio provided customers with a comprehensively equipped package that also offered “a sporty appeal”.
The BT-50 SP is available as a dual-cab 4x4 and is priced from $62,990 plus on-road costs. It is fitted with Mazda’s carryover 140kW/450Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine and offered with a six-speed manual or optional eight-speed automatic transmission (+$3000).
The SP version, which sits above the GT dual-cab in the BT-50 range, is distinguished by a suite of black and grey exterior features, including 18-inch alloy wheels, door handles, grille, lower bumper garnish, roof rails, side steps, signature wing and sail-plane sport bar, tonneau cover, tub liner, wheel arch flares, and wing mirrors. Inside, it features black and Driftwood leather upholstery combined with synthetic suede interior trim.
Mazda continues to rank well on local year-to-date sales charts with 4x2 versions of its BT-50 slotting into fourth place with 2392 unit sales behind the Toyota HiLux (10,514), Isuzu D-Max (5434), and Ford Ranger (3395).
In the four-wheel drive sales charts, the BT-50 ranks fifth with 11,153 unit sales, well behind the Ford Ranger (38,291) and Toyota HiLux (34,238), and tailing the Isuzu D-Max (16,266) and Mitsubishi Triton (14,458).
The revised MY22 BT-50 range – including new XS and SP variants – will be available from January 2022.
